I have tried it and I have to say, personally, I feel more immersion when sat up close to the monitor.

Maybe old habits die hard?

Maybe I am doing it wrong but it just does not feel as immersive, I do not feel as "connected" to the game.

I got a 30" monitor and I still sit close to it and love it, I tried doing it on my 46" TV but just didn't like it.

I love playing with my two 24 inch LCD screens, especially in L4D2 and RTS games :)

Mr Moo you are wrong fine sir, I thought at your age you would need large monitors ;)

Anything over 32inch doesn't feel right for PC gaming especially FPS in my opinion. 27inch monitor here and sit around a foot and a half to 2 foot away and it looks fine and I still have the immersion factor. Hopefully upgrading to the same size screen but 120/144hz to see what all the fuss is about.

I think it is the "sitting away" thing which I do not get along with.

LOL

I love dual monitors, however, using a large display, sat back, just does not feel right :(

Personally, I think 1080p is too small a resolution for the current display sizes we have, especially for gaming and when using a computer monitor for all these years, you are used to the sharpness.

Maybe 2k/4k will make a difference.

I lose all sense of immersion playing on a big screen which I don't like. I use a small screen for all games except driving games where I find immersion not really a factor. IMO fps games are at home on a small screen to get the full effect from the viewpoint u are playing the game from.

I have tried a range of monitors from a 17" up to an 8 foot projector screen. In my opinion the best at least for me is a 32" TV used as a monitor. I used to have a meagre 1366*768 affair that was pretty rubbish for windows stuff like video editing but nice for games.
Since then I got a new 32" that does 1920*1080, wouldn't change it.

I used to love playing games on my projector 100" or plasma tv 50" but since I got a 30" monitor everything else pales in comparison. Until a 32" 4k monitor comes out ;-)

I've tried gaming on a 24" 1080p but I'm using a 21.5" 1080p now which feels better for some reason, yeah I also don't feel immersed on the larger screen.

I'm sitting about 3 feet away and I think its better because you get more of the image beamed into your line of sight without glancing around as much.

Single player games - prefer PC monitor usually

Multiplayer over internet - prefer PC monitor usually

Multiplayer in-the-room (i.e. console style multiplayer) - big screen and sofa FTW

With my PC on the way I'll have a better opinion after the weekend however from just the messing around in KotoR and Fable TLC on this pc I'm far preferring the smaller screen. I was finding that playing on a larger screen after a while I lost interest and just stuck on the TV instead. However so far its not been an issue on the PC. Couch/Consoles are still the way to go for gaming sessions with beers and mates however.

I'm currently debating whether to get a 27" monitor to replace my 22" for gaming. Or to go for a cheaper 24". I'm sure a 27" wouldn't be too big and would look better sat next to my 32" tv.

I couldn't play fps games on a massive screen if I want to win, everything else is better on my 92 inch screen.
