Large TV or Projector?

Ah, turns out that the W1700 is actually a 1080p native producing 4 fields per frame :(

Depends on the technique used some are close to indistinguishable from the real thing for the purpose of video especially if the source content isn't a full on UHD resolution/high bitrate - for things like PC use the experience will be a bit more varied.

One of the reasons I stuck with a decent 720p projector for so long versus a lower end 1080p as for a long time back then a lot of "HD" Bluray, etc. were way off 1080p resolution.

Got to see the W1700 in action again last night. I took my W1070 round to compare and it’s blows the 1070 away. Tried several 4K UHD discs and some huge 4K MKV files.

I still think the W1070 is a very good 1080p projector, we tried the 4K UHD discs through the amp to my W1070 and they worked, the Sony player must downscale them? Not sure how that works.

I recently demoed a £5000 4k projector on an 80 inch screen. Absolutely massive thing. Never heard the fan but thats because the movie that was playing completely overpowered it. The image was good, especially good motion, but i would still opt for a 75 inch OLED if i had that amount of cash to play with.

For me 80” is too small, 120” plus is the dogs nads.

That's the danger with pjs, you get addicted to the sheer size and the cinematic experience they bring! I started with 92", then 100", then 110", and now have a 120" (although in storage atm until we move). Each leap in size only made the experience better. If the new place allows and if I can afford a pj to power it, i'll go bigger. It wasn't until getting over 100" that it really felt like having a cinema in the house, though, as opposed to a really really big tv. And as cool as 80" is, i'd go for a large OLED instead for the amazing pq.

At 80" the compromises far outweigh the pros of a projector, if it is possible to buy a fixed display and a fixed display suits the room, then always go for one.

I have a 120" screen which rolls down infront of a set of french doors in my cinema room which i find fantastic, a fixed display wouldnt suit the room and nor could i afford a 120" display!
