Las Vegas

Book a late check out immediately. 10am checkout with a 3pm flight is horrible :(

I did that (flight 6pm tho) when I went and apart from milling around in the AC shopping centres all day, there's not a lot you want to do. Trust me when I say you'll want to screwdriver your eyes out come 3pm.

What did you guys do for cash?

Post office travel credit card? Just take cash out?

Trying to figure out what would be best.

Take $3500 in physical cash with you and purchase extra insurance to cover it. Get it from the high street and just blow all the spare money on the last day.

You can insure physical cash?

There always used to be a massive Vegas thread but I can't find it so I'll use this one instead, Rottys views would be appreciated.

Since I booked my room in Vegas prices have come down a lot so I'm considering rebooking into a Suite for the price of a Premier Inn in Watford, this is one of the great things about Vegas :D

I've narrowed the hotels down to one of the MGM properties.

So I've got a choice between a Signature Suite at the MGM Grand Signature or the Executive King Suite (Posh name but in reality its the base suite) at the MGM Grand itself.

Any views either way? Leaning towards Signature at the moment. It's also a tenner cheaper.

I'm no expert on the MGM but I think it comes down to a better room or longer walk to the strip, the Signature is very nice but set a way back, I haven't stayed there but my mate loves it, I would probably be tempted more towards the signature too

You are right re the room rates, I have already had Hotels.com price match 3 times since booking

Weirdly it seems the MGM Suite is slightly larger.

they are quite a bit older though they have been renovation the rooms over last few years, not sure when these were last done, for me the Signature just seems a smarter environment especially in public areas

Gun store is worth a go if you have any interest. Might have to queue a while but its something you cant do over her

Hard Rock Cafe also did a nice new york strip steak. No doubt theres far more high end places though if thats your thing, but we weren't particularly bothered. We went to McDonalds a couple of times :D

School boy error, america is the hamburger capital of the world, so many places to go rather than mcdonalds.

Make sure you go to The Cheesecake Factory, the food is awesome.

I went down the clarity route and have just been to Poland last weekend, the rate I got was 8% better than the PO for example

just FYI (not sure if you've realised) but you're comparing a hotel room with a condo

one is in the MGM hotel itself, the other(signature) is in a block of apartments situated within the resort - lots of them are privately owned but rented out to guests when not in use - thus they'll have things like a full size fridge and working kitchen which you won't often get in a hotel room

I went last June for my birthday. Best week of my life!

I paid $1000 to stay at planet Hollywood, awesome hotel.

I took $2500 myself too as I planned on playing a few poker tourneys and hitting the roulette etc! Some great side games too to chuck slot of change at for fun

Sooo many good resteraunts, my fave being Gordon Ramses steak in the Eiffel tower hotel (forgot its name)

All you can eat buffets, unlimited pancake, chicken and waffles!! What more do you want.

As well as the Grand Canyon and battlefield(this is a must) there is the zip line which is ******* mental. It is so good, one of the best experiences I've had flying though the canyons at some speed!

As said, you don't pay for drinks, sit at s table, machine and tip as little as a $ a time and you can order pretty much what you want. The more you do the better the service, speed etc. night clubs are EXPENSIVE for men, women get everything for free, entry, drinks...all the pervys pay whatever to prey on the drunken women !

Most importantly get used to no sleep, we ended up being awake until 4-5 most nights if not later and always got up 9-10 to get breakfast and pool beds.

Btw the pool party's are the best things to attend. Everyone just gets on with each other, there are no arses, so many hot women!

Like 95% of the women I saw were extremely hot, very rare you saw a munter!

I could go on but I'm rambling AS my excitement is taking over along with the depression of the though subsiding it haha

Have fun!

Last time we went for 7 days and had such a good time we're stopping off in LV for 3 days again next year. Going NY (fly) -> LV (drive) -> LA (drive) -> SFO via the pacific coast highway. Last year we stayed in Vdara which is a really nice, modern hotel. Probably will be looking at The Cosmopolitan or Caesar's next though.

Yup - aware of this(Though the base offering is really just a slightly larger hotel room rather than a proper suite/condo), though the kitchen side of things isn't of use as we are only there for two nights. It's more having somewhere really rather nice to stay at the sort of rates we'd pay for much lower quality accommodation in pretty much any other city in the world.

Off to the west coast later this year. Los Angeles -> San Francisco -> Napa -> Yosemite -> Sequoia -> Death Valley -> Las Vegas

Little bit of driving for me, but not much of a problem at all there.

Visiting a few friends who moved out that way, drinking a frankly mind boggling quantity of coffee and doind a large chunk of sightseeing. Seems like a good way to spend a few weeks.

Not been that side of the country for any length of time before, so will be nice to actually do some of it.

Vegas wise, we're booked into the MGM Signature, going to the Neon Boneyard, taking in a couple of shows, the Skywalk at the Grand Canyon *other half is terrified of heights, and she doesn't know about this bit yet. ;)*, Atomic Testing Museum and shopping... at the moment. She keeps wanting to add more stuff, hence me adding the Skywalk. Also want to do the Pinball Hall of Fame, but I may have to be on my own for that one.

We looked at trying to get onto the DoE Nevada Test Site tour, but it was at the wrong times for us sadly.

The Skywalk is crap, don't fall for it. It isn't the Grand Canyon, it's a tourist trap on a side canyon. Make sure you visit the South Rim of the Grand Canyon instead. Thats the actual Grand Canyon. By the time you've paid all the associated ripoff fees for the Skywalk you may as well have bought a South Rim package.
