Im just looking at getting a Trust bluetooth mouse, They come in laser and non-laser. Sounds a silly question but are laser mice safe? I mean if you accidentally look into the laser or something?

Thanks in advance

Safe enough! I have a Microsoft Sidewinder and can't see the laser with naked eye. Strangely though, my phone camera picks it up.

They use Class 1 Lasers which are safe for the eyes.

Class 1 lasers are products where the irradiance (measured in watts per metre square) of the accessible laser beam (the accessible emission) does not exceed the Maximum Permissible Exposure (MPE) value. Therefore, for Class 1 laser products the output power is below the level at which it is believed eye damage will occur. Exposure to the beam of a Class 1 laser will not result in eye injury and may therefore be considered safe. However, some Class 1 laser products may contain laser systems of a higher class but there are adequate engineering control measures to ensure that access to the beam is not reasonably likely. Examples of such products include laser printers and compact disc players. Anyone who dismantles a Class 1 laser product that contains a higher class laser system is potentially at risk of exposure to a hazardous laser beam. A laser that is inherently safe and cannot exceed the MPE under any circumstances is exempt from the classification system.

The eyes natural blink reflex is enough to protect you.

So if u cant see something it's not dangerous?!

If kids are around it then it helps not being able to see any light from the bottom. With most mice there's a red light that can keep children amused for hours shining it everywhere (including into their eyes). No light from the bottom = no trouble.

It will be safe as long as your kids dont try and swallow it i guess. If its a wired mouse your ok as you can yank on the cord until it comes up. If its wireless your in trouble.

i'm fairly sure that laser mice turn the laser off the moment they are lifted from the surface? i KNOW the mx1000 did this.
