Laser Range Finders

Nope, that's a laser pointer.

A laser range finder funnily enough is a device that lets you work out how far something is away. You point the device at the target, press a button and it fires a laser at the target. The resulting reflection takes a certain amount of time, and therefore using some basic maths it'll tell you how far away it is. More advanced models can tell you the speed of a moving object, such as the Police speed guns. ;)

Yeah basically... lol

expesive steel tapemeasure.

Surveyors use them a lot they are useful if you measure things often
We sure do and they are the best invention yet for us poor guys who used to have to trail a dirty tape measure round buildings getting manky handling the things. They're especially great in big industrial sheds, accurate to a couple of cm over 100m or so. And not that expensive now either considering what they used to cost and how much time they save us.

they are accurate to within one foot!,that's 30cm. No wonder Estate agents like them for measuring room sizes :D

My folks use them for this purpose and it's just so much easier, and it's accurate to more than a foot :) Will have to dig out the specs on it, think it's a leica one.

Not their exact one but a quick google shows accuracy on the ones made for internal/small distances accurate up to 1.5mm.

The ones that were accurate to a foot that the estate agents used to use were the sonic rangers were they not?

I use a Leica Disto same as this.

Accurate to 5cm over 100m :)

Only thing is they're not good outdoors so keep my tape handy for shop frontage measurement.
