Laser Toner problem

Have a SCX 4300 printer and the the output has streaks in it, black then a white one, or a blank streak. Looking at the toner theres inky lines on the toner, green strip. It says not to touch this. Can it be cleaned, fixed, or is just a case of getting a new toner. This toner while about 2yrs old is still 75% full. I dunno if someone messed with it before.
 
It sounds like you've somehow picked up something on the roller. Not sure where it comes from but it could be some toner has got on there and become fused to it, rather than come off as its supposed to.

Why not try giving it a clean with IPA or something? I wouldn't go much stronger than IPA as you could strip the plastic material away.

You've got little to lose really by trying it.
 
Actually after a little research there's also a possibility that the toner wiper, that removes unused toner from the green imaging roller, is damaged and has left the residue on the roller. To fix this you'd need to replace the toner.
 
Sounds like its contaminated to me. Had them before where they do this for a little bit then one day the go pop, not a nice job cleaning toner out of your printer (damn you HP magenta!!!)
 
The green drum is made from light sensitive material that can be easily damaged. Run several cleaning pages through from within the printer driver and if it still happens then it's new toner time.
 
That particular drum (like many but not all) is coated in an organic photo-conductor which is comparatively quite soft, use a soft dry cloth to carefully wipe away any excess toner from the drum and wiper blade, being careful not to do any damage. If the drum is severely marked or has been contaminated then that may be the cause and would require refurbishment/replacement.
 
Thanks for all the replies. At the start I looked for cleaning pages, but there wasn't any. So I just printed a few sample pages. Is it only inkjets that use cleaning pages? I won't damage anything other than the toner by trying to clean it I'm wondering. The cost of the toner is nearly the cost of a new laser printer.
 
Most Laserjet printers have a cleaning page facility on them either by holding down a set control panel button or an option within the driver. Im speaking about the Hp Laserjets I worked with mind.
 
My Samsung laser doesn't have a cleaning option either so maybe it is something particular to HP Laserjets or others but seemingly not these two Samsungs.

If the cleaning option is anything like with the HP Inkjets I've had it's just a great way to waste ink and have to buy replacements sooner.
 
I'm curious what does a laser cleaning page do? A inkjet one is obvious, it cleans the jets. But theres nothing to mechanically clean the drum on the laser printer is there?
