Messiah Khan...I was just a bit concerned about overloading the forums with photo's of flowers!
It's about time we had an influx of flower photography and I for one would love to see more about these parts. Get cracking. I might even join you if the weather picks up.

Back on topic, I'm really not taken with this shot. The composition doesn't work for me, although it's obviously worked for the other people who have so far commented. In all honesty it's just not pretty enough for a flower photo.

The main problems for me are that there's too much going on in the shot (although it's a refreshing change to see someone filling the frame) and the four flowers are all fighting for my attention. The one is the bottom right is obviously shouting the loudest, but with the two darker ones to the right of the frame I'm finding myself looking at them and being distracted.

The best of all four is by far the one at the top, and the shallow DOF and soft focus just looks fantastic. It's not quite there in terms of composition and I think the focus is a bit off, but the technique and general effect is what I'd be looking for.

If you can get in really close to one flower and pull off a shot similar in style to how that flower looks in this one... well, that would be a real winner in my book.

That's my favourite of your shots I've seen today. I do see a lot of photos where I think there is too much going on, but this one works for me.

I might just be tempted to post some of my own photos for the first time too...

Thanks Alex...do it man, get some photo's up. I've found the people here to be very helpful and constructive in their criticism.

Glitch, thanks once again for your comments. Even though my camera has a supermacro mode I still can't quite get in as close as I'd like so I'm going to get some close up filters soon (I have a fixed lens so cannot get extension tubes etc).
