Last question before first overclock?

Is there any ESSENTIAL software i need to download before overclocking from 2.0GHz to about 2.2GHz?

Im doing it on stock heatsink, i dont want a big overclock - just learning how to do it.

- I already have core temp and speedfan.

2.0 to 2.2 ghz? You need absolutely nothing but 5 brain cells.

I have never clocked before though.. i just want to have that feeling of overclocking it. Then i can progress.

So basically just to get started im going increase the FSB by 5MHz....?

Personally I would just bump it straight up - shouldnt be any problems. If it doesnt post crank it down slowly.

how many mhz should i go up then? bearing in mind i have stock heatsink.

Ive just gone into bios but couldnt see the option for cranking up the FSB. Anybody with a gigabyte ds3r mobo help please?

Also, while just looking in the bios i check CPUZ and the multipler and core speed keeps changing.

THANKS to everyone for helping! I just did my first overclock! I went straight to 2.67GHz but felt i diddnt want to go that high till i have a better heatsink. Im now running at 2.4GHz on stock. Does this look safe?

Put the CPU under load using Prime 95 and then check the temps.

where can i download prime95?
