Okay, i loved the 400D and i like the 350D a little, but the thing im bothered about is money, i can get a 350D with kit for £265 or i can wait and save another £115 which will take probably another week and get a 400D Is it worth the extra £115 for a begginner? Will i be dissapointed with the 350D?

Let me know, short comparison on the most important details would be an advantage, i am looking myself but advice from people who know would be better.

I will be buying lenses eventually but not too bothered atm..

Does the extra 2mp help?

I probably wont be doing burst shots so that isnt a problem, battery life is a pretty big thing for me.

I really want the 400D but its the money im bothered about, if its THAT much better then i supose i can wait an extra week.. 3 weeks for a 350D probably 5 for a 400D. Thats how long its taking due to the amount im able to spare each week.

Let me know,

Cheers,

James.

There are rumours around the Don's room of a seperate subforum just for your "what shall i get?" threads! ;)

On a serious note though, i've noticed amongst your many, many threads a definite leaning towards the 400D. The way i see it if you get anything else now you will just be thinking what if? Plus the small matter of the new threads "Should i have got the 400D". :D

Get the 400D, 1 more week of saving will save any doubts you may have.

Lol okay, convinced me, thanks.

I know what you mean, i havnt shut up about it, excitement i suppose but now that im saving.. I want to get it.

Stuff it, ill get it.

no contest - i know they are similar but the 400d is fine as a bigginers camera

Good man :D. I recently took the plunge and got a 400D too, not had too much time to play about yet due to other stuff but some time off soon and a new lens about to be ordered are going to change this.

Oh and i was just yankin' your chain about the threads, it's good to see the enthusiasm.

I just got a 400D few months back and i'm a total beginner,

you won't be dissappointed

450D will be a fair bit pricier though especially at least 2-3 months after launch still - RRP is £600 with stores expected to let it go for the 500~ marker whilst a 400D is easily yanked for the near side of £350 !

I've got a 350D and its a great camera the only two things that 400D has that i would want is slightly faster autofocusing and the larger screen at the back. Only you can decide whether those or some of the other changes the 400D has are worth the extra money to you. Personally i think you would find a 350D plus a 50mm F1.8 or 350D plus a battery grip would make a better overall package than just the 400D with it's kit lens.

I can get the following on a certain auction site that offer lots of deals:

400D Body + Kit lens
4gb card
table stand
long stand
bag
card reader
lens cleaning kit

The 400D is the way to go me thinks, best option overall, 450D is just too expensive and the 350D isnt as good as the 400D which i can easilly get if i save so..

Pffft, ill get it, im assuming in 4-5 weeks i should have it, i am going to save, giving the mum my money so i dont spend it. Simple as.

Maybe I'm being thick but what are these stands you speak of? Do you mean tripods? If so they're most likely to be very cheap and probably not able to hold the weight much.

Make sure you've got enough to afford it, for decent kit, the camera price is probably going to be less than half the price you pay to gather everything else.

Rubbish! The 350D is just as good at the 400D and I have used 300/350 and 400D and the 350D is the best of the lot IMO. The lack of a setting screen on the 400D annoyed me to hell!

The 350D is only 2MP behind with a smaller screen. For a beginner a 350D is exactly the same as a 400D.

I would go for whichever one is cheaper and then get a nice additional lens/memory cards etc :)

How much are you actually looking to spend?

I got my 400D/kit lens for £310 refurb from canon (their auction site store), as far as I could tell it was new. 12 month warranty, everything in sealed packaging and not a scratch on anything.

They've been going for around £275-290 lately as well.

Aye i meant tripod..

I will want to get a decent tripod not long after i get the camera.

Ive had my heart set on the 400D for a while so i think i should just stick with that.

Plus when i tested them both in store, i prefered the 400D's feel and look.

I can stretch to £400 but thats my limit.

Whats their auction website?

for £400 i would concider used 20/30D's.

what kind of pics are you wanting to take? to be honest i cant remember the last time i used my tripod, if youre not going to be taking low light and/or slow shutter speed shots id hold off for now.

but thats just me..
