Last time im going to ask about this, 350D/400D

for £400 i would concider used 20/30D's.

what kind of pics are you wanting to take? to be honest i cant remember the last time i used my tripod, if youre not going to be taking low light and/or slow shutter speed shots id hold off for now.

but thats just me..

I want to get pictures of scenary, i wnt to get pictures of people, i want pictures of random and interesting things, i willw ant low light things, i want some graphic images e.g. a poor block of flats in a poor estate in Bradford, i can do some pretty cool things with these kinds of pictures, i want some pics of the sky, especially at night so ill be investing in a lens for that.

Some other things which i cant remember right now. I want to do all kinds of photography atm, until i find my fav type.

I will want to be going down to the local lake and getting some shots down there, and go for walks when bored, theres a wind farm not far from me which id love to take a visit to..

i do exactly what you are donig with my setup - i walk around with the tripod and go for walks etc! sometimes i get good shots other times not so good - im stil learning!

What do you use?

if you want scenery and/or low light shots then a tripod is a good idea.

Do you know any good ones? The one ive seen has a bubble level on it.

Are the 20/30D's much better? Are they the professional ones?

20/30/40D are pro-sumer models. basically the next grade up from the 300/350/400/450D series.

it depends how serious you are about getting in to photography i guess. i started off with a 300D but the lack of AI servo (constant focus tracking for moving objects) hindered me so i upgraded to a 2nd hand 20D.

ive always been a fan of manfrotto pods (tri and mono). get whichever suits your budget, a ball head on the tripod will help with leveling.

As for the camera, get a second hand 350D or 400D and use the rest of the money of mamory cards, bag, tripod, remote shutter and lenses etc. The camera body should make up only a portion of your budget.

Again depends on your budget. Depending on what your wanting to shoot, something like a Manfrotto 190X ProB or 055ProB would be a good choice. A Bubble level isn't important, the stiffness, strength, weight and usability of the tripod is.

I can stretch to £400 but thats my limit.

Whats their auction website?

I can't say, competitor and all that... it's on the very well known auction site though.

If you got one for £275 that leaves plenty of money to get started.

4gb Ultra II CF card - £17.50

Tripod - £15-50, I wouldn't spend too much on this tbh... I find I rarely need to use mine (cheap Vanguard model).

Case/bag - I got a Crumpler pretty boy backpack for £50 but there are cheaper options, they do a few shoulder bags for about £30-35 which would be fine.

Remote release - £5

Circular polariser - £10-20

Lenses - Probably best to stick to the kit lens until you have got used to everything, the 50mm f1.8 is a very good lens for portraits and comes in at around £50 if you want something better.

You don't need more options. You need to save the money, bite the bullet and buy any of the cameras mentioned and start having fun with the camera. ;)

Tell me about it, doing my head in now. The next 2 weeks will fly due to the ban khol so itll be here quicker than i expect.

Should be fun, after the hectic xmas i had to put off the idea for a while but now im back onto it i cant wait.

Should be fun.

buying the body is the easy bit. buying good glass with all the varying opinions floating around is the hard bit ;)

I'd take MK's adivce and get yourself a cheap second hand body to free up more funds for glass and accesorise, It's scary how much you'll land up spending on things that you never really budgeted for like filters, memory cards and batteries.

With the speed camera bodies are moving at the minute and the huge depreciation I'd always look second hand I got a second hand 30D in January for the same price as a new 400D and it's imaculate got mine off a Forum and thats the way I'd recomend going.

Glass is terible I have an almost overwhelming temptation to buy way better and more expensive stuff then I really need as a total amature. So far I've done ok and restricted myself to getting a sigma 17-70 as a walk about but that very nearly became a canon 17-40L on purchase day!

Oh man i dont know..

350 plus lenses looks good, but 400D plus a lens when ever i need/want one itll only take a couple of weeks depending on what i want. 400D plus kit will be suffice to start with me thinks.. im not sure though, ill look into it more. Might get a brand new 350D in black though, the grey puts me off them.

the kit lens is not a bad lens to get to grips with the camera. If you need to upgrade you can always sell it like i did mine i got £65 for mine. :p
