Why would he care if people read this thread if he's not being kept on anyway?

Because if he did something stupid, hes told us where he works :) You would be absolutely amazed at the stupid stuff Argos and I assume other retail staff staff do to stock/property and stuff. Hazards of employing a younger immature workforce.

I was on the Tills last weekend and got 6 insurances in one day but have never got an Argos card. Could this be one reason why I havent been kept on

amen, the amount of time I picked etch a sketchs for a customer only to find some inappropriate words sketched on it and having to wipe it all off before giving it out. Makes you wonder why sometimes..

it really could be a number of reasons, it would be best to have a 1 to 1 with your manager asking them what those factors were and whether theres a way to sort them out/improve in the future.

Well when you pay people minimum wage don't expect them to be hyper-motivated and thrilled with enthusiasm at putting things through the till.

I will have a word with them on Saturday if it isnt too busy, chances are they wont budge on their decision though.

I worked at just about minimum wage when I was younger and I coped ok :p Ive no idea what Argos pay their staff. So I couldnt comment :)

I too was once on a temp xmas contract in argos but they just kept me on cos they liked the way I worked, put a lot of drive and energy into the warehouse picks so much half the staff didnt have chance to pick it up themselves.

Guess thats why I got extended contract, cos I did the same exact thing in Currys only to be made redundant yet they kept the staff that dossed around and didnt work and turned up late.... turned out they enjoyed there characters "more" and a week after 6 of us were let go they had to rehire new staff ;)

So I would usualy say dont take it to heart but theres always a darn reason why your not kept on just glad I found out afterwards why my contract wasnt renewed..... but glad it was a bad move by stupid people that think there managers ;)

Probably,

From personal experience, I'd say my own company has taken on 80% Polish people for 200+ jobs in the last year - we have recently started hiring Hungarians - so over 12 months we now have roughly 170 Polish and 20 Hungarian workers, plus a small amount of British workers.

The main reason being - most British people from my city (and a 60mile catchment area around it) aren't willing to work weekend nights (or any night) for £8.00 an hour. They want to go out down the boozer on a Friday and Saturday Night and have fun with their families during the day over the weekend.... Thats the main reason, and it has been proven from the research conducted by our HR department (who asked candidates and those people handing their notice in). Now, if we offered a British person £15 an hour for giving up their Friday, Saturday and Sunday night, they might (just might) think about it.

The sad fact is, my company can't get the number of workers it needs in a 100 mile catchment area, willing to do weekend shift work (apart from European workers) - for a starting wage of £8.00 an hour - or £11 with shift. Simply because a typical British person is too concerned about their social life to give up their Friday night with their mates.

So, if my company wants to get quality workers at the cheapest price (who perform the same - but cost less) than British based workers, who should they go for ???
