i didn't think last years clearance could be done anymore! ucas certainly took it down some time ago!

I don't think he's looking to join a course of last year's clearance list since the courses would have already stared.
I think he wants to look at it to gain an idea as to what courses are likely to be available.

It might be a bit of hassle but your local library may still have copies of the papers from around clearing time which you could use to look up what was available. Possibly been put on microfiche or computer by now but worth the ask since UCAS have taken them down.
Alternatively try emailing UCAS to see if they could give you a list of courses available in clearing at a specific date (say 10/07/2007 or whatever).
