Games requirements tend to be one step behind hardware. Games have finally started to require dual core at the same time quad core surfaced. When 8 core cpus start to appear, games needing quad core will start to surface.
At least that's the way i've always viewed PC hardware.

the way that programs are coded, changing from Single-threaded applications to Dual is very complex, but from dual to tri to quad to whatever, the changes in the code are much less complex.
i'm hoping that game companies (like Crytek) will take advantage of this and make their up-and-coming games fully multithreaded.
