I’m looking for the “best” non widescreen monitor to replace my 19” whatever-brand monitor.

I remember in college in 2007 or so some pretty nice Dell monitors that must have been 21” 1600*1200 or so that also had composite in which would be useful to me. Interesting this style of monitor is already getting pricey on eBay.

Other than those dells Are there any other models that are well regarded?

I always fancied NEC screens but never bought one. I used one at work years back and really liked it!

Currently a Dell U2412M for retro gaming,

Not a gaming monitor (60hz) but decent colour accuracy. The colours in GTA Vice City really pop and runs 1600x1200.

Although earlier versions had heavy antiglare coating which really spoiled the image. Later versions are much better.

I'm fond of NEC MultiSync monitors from that era.

I bought a Dell 2007FPb several years ago but had to sell it on as it had image peristence issues. I also noticed that those monitors have gone up in price lately.

Dell 2007FPb is a good shout - i have one that i use in tate mode for my mister. I did pickup a 17" dell LCD for £15 quid off ebay recently and it works great too.

You can pick up the 2007 from between £25 and £50 quid on ebay, ignore the mad people trying to get £499 for theirs :D

If you can find one, the Eizo 26.5 or 27 inch Square monitors are cool as hell. Have one for arcade gaming. 1920x1920 resolution and as such it doesn't matter if it's a horizontal or vertical game. :D

If not, the Dell 2007fp is a good one. 20" 1600x1200 and numerous inputs.

Deep dark hole

3:2, 4k, all the modern features including USB-C.
I can't disagree with this choice, got two in front of me now - great for development etc.
