4 weeks since the 1080 launch:

99% of 1080 availability are founders editions all others are pre-order. AIB Stock is depleted worldwide as they cant supply the demand - no-one wants your crappy blower founders nvidia! pathetic! which results in insane ebay 1080 prices.

why has this happened? - was it intentional to not mass produce these knowing people are waiting for the 1080 ti?

nvidia better fix production capability for the 1080 ti or they will lose enthusiasts faith in their brand. 4 weeks is a long time in the technology world and the 1070 is also in a **** state of affairs

will the rx 480 meet the same fate? wccf tech reports they have it in mass numbers - i aint buying this rumour either.

Point i'm making is manufacturers can't supply the demand after 4 weeks of launch.

i own a sweet shop, try this sweet..!? ...wait...i don't own any sweets to sell. derp.

nah it's just the best selling card the univers has ever known, and it's impossible to keep up with the already amazing stock nvidia ships :D
well if you can believe that, personally i dont :D

Deliberate hold back to pretend the product is more popular than it really is. (Generates hype and justifies exorbitant prices).
A well know dirty tactic. (One of many nvidia have pulled). But sadly the door is open for them to pull these tricks because they have no competition.

why has this happened?
They always said AIB partner cards would come later than the FE cards. At the most basic it's logistics - give someone a reference card and all they have to do is slap a sticker on it and it's ready to sell. Give someone a chip and PCB and they have to assemble their coolers on it, test, and sell. Give someone just a chip and they have to stick it on the PCB, do more testing, assemble coolers, test, and sell.

So having more FE stock than partner stock isn't surprising at all at the moment. Give it some time and the situation will probably reverse.

There's no weird tactics here, Nvidia has no competition and it's the first 16nm card, they evidently overestimated the quality of their yields - which IMO is why AIB partners went all out advertising crazy boost speeds and now have to make revisions of cards with lower clocks.

This is a bit messier than most launches, but let's be honest - for every new gen it takes several weeks to find cards in stock. This is still a niche market.

I think the release has been a success... Most successful releases follow this trend. Not just graphics cards but look at phones, drones, consoles, even cars! If the share price goes up as dramatically as it has, it's done something right.

It's standard marketing tactics. People are more inclined to have something that's difficult to obtain. Same happens at every new console launch - "limited" supplies makes people want to secure one even if they don't necessarily need it.

That's not what Gibbo said. He said custom would be out same time as FE.

Pretty sure it was more like pre-orders will be available for aftermarket models at the same time as FE, which if I recall correctly was the case, with AIB's available to pre-order around a similar time frame.

I just think demand has been overwhelming and yields possibly underwhelming. They possibly also jumped the gun, but simple fact is its only an issue for those wanting AIB's those wanting FE can and have got them so see no issue with them releasing when then did.

Separately no way they are holding back for the 1080Ti. If anything they are trying to sell as many before the 1080Ti comes out as they inevitably know people will dump 1080's for 1080TI's, double the sales. Just need to take a look at people dumping 980Ti's / Titan X's for 10-20% increase. a 1080Ti will be an even bigger gap I expect.

Also, enthusiasts losing faith in the brand, doubt it, there is no where else to turn for the near future for this kind of performance. one way or another Nvidia will take you cash

That's right it was pre orders he said, but would be available shortly after release day.

Also it might not turn all enthusiasts away but it will push some to consoles. Less hassle

The thing is they may not have any need to release a 1080ti for some time, If ever. It'll depend on how good Vega is and when it releases, If the best Vega only just matches a 1080 why bother unless they have a load of unused chips.

If you think this is bad just wait until the 1080Ti lands, you'll need to hire someone to keep hammering 'F5' on OCUK's pre order screen for a week if you want to grad one on launch day.

It was a known fact custom cards were to release 2 weeks after the FE's.

Also, Gibbo said they'd be arriving in small quantities throughout June.

As with any preorders- dates are at best an estimate.
