latest NPD, PS3 does 710.4K

Why are MW2 sales so low on the PS3 is the bigger question, there's not a massive difference in consoles out there anymore, would have thought the numbers would have been closer... Even assassins creed 2 sold quite a percentage less... It's no wonder old PS exclusives are going multiplatform.

If I had both platforms I'd certainly stick with the 360 version of MW2 having had a 'shootout' with my nephews PS3.

4 million poor ? going by that other guys stats of 4:6

i reckon uncharted 2 coming out not long before might of had something to do with the PS3 MW2 sales too. and the fact theres far less PS3 consoles in circulation

anyway i imagine a huge % of xbox owners fall in the teenager category of first person shooters only. especially when on this forum if you ever ask the best game for your 360 you will get a list of FPS , GOW1+2 , halo , MW etc

anyway im amazed the PS2 still sells so many. mental. sony as a whole looks great sales wise

OP figures are US only.

The PS3 has always performed poorly in the US market but it's picked up loads now and imo is doing quite well. Globally PS3 has been outselling 360 since September which is due to the Slim. The Wii has still been selling millions.

Week 3 MW2 sales worldwide are 6m 360 and 4m PS3. ACII 1.3m 360 and 1.1m PS3.

Global hardware sales week ending 5th December are:

Wii: 1,071,236.
PS3: 549,518.
360: 400,623.

The Wii is nearly at 60m total sales worldwide now and the DS at just under 118m. Amazing, Nintendo must be loving it.

PS3 matching 360 in North America is impressive because USA has always been a fortress for 360, if MS could get similar success in the Asian market they'd be shouting it from the rooftops.

I wouldn't get a WII as i think their accessories/Games are overpriced.

The accessories are over priced on all systems.

The psp isn't very healthy the go hasn't had any long term effect on sales, according to some there isn't even a psp game in the top 100 for the npd

Just wondering how they work out this info because didn't they ban loads of hacked xbox's? Do they take this into account when working out the figure's? or is it a sale is a sale in the figure's? out of interest.

A sale is a sale, and NPD, to be fair is not a precise figure as they don't take into account many online vendors. I am sure I read that places like amazon.com are not taken into account.

Also it would be impossible to take into account banned/broken/replacement 360's as no-one asks you "why" you buy a console when you hand over your 300 bucks :)

....Every thread I read when someone had their 360 banned was "xbox sux, I'm buyin' a PS3".

....I really don't think things like this effect the big picture.

Looking at the year on year figures you can see why Nintendo has cut back on Wii production and reduced forecasts. PS3 is doing better, 3rd in sales (of non handhelds) is not great.

and yet a few think PS3 is not doing well.

Nice to see them all doing well!..

No idea why people revel in any of them doing badly...

Personally I wanted to see the PS3 outsell the 360 in the US, it would have kept MS on their toes somewhat, they seem to be resting on their laurels a bit, Sony have worked hard with getting a good priced Slim out the door, excellent exclusives, and MS do seem to have somehow kept momentum going, despite all expectation... They really need a kick up the pants to keep prices low and to get some good first party titles out..

Answer me this, do you firmly believe the Wii deserves the title of the best selling console ever made? I don't think it's good enough to warrant such stupidly high sales figures.
.

How many has it sold in total? Surely not surpassing the 120m the PS2 has so far sold (although I guess if its selling 6 million a year + even after a few years it must be pretty close)

I understand they're all doing well, but I find it weird to highlight a poor performance relative to all direct competition.

Remember this is north america only figures (isnt it?) where Sony have always done badly - so 3/4 of a million is pretty amazing really (although you are correct compared to the other platforms)

edit - nm caught up with the thread now - I still think the PS2 has outsold the wii even due to timescale from launch, 2m a year or so has been a nigh on constant for the last four/five years - so by a quick calculation Wii would have to continue to sell over 30m units for a couple more years before it beats the ps2 (doable yes - and maybe even likely - but it hasnt done it yet)
