"Expreview is drawing some wild conclusion that its related to Nvidia’s impeding launch of Fermi based cards and as such they want to prevent the cards from being overclocked. This seems like a little bit of a long shot, especially as the drivers are WHQL certified for use with the current crop of cards. Hopefully Nvidia will sort out this issue as we can imagine that quite a few people will be miffed about it, least not the competitive overlocking crowd."

I would have described myself as a NVIDIA fan boy only 3-6 months ago, I am now really starting to wonder what is going on, my 260 GTX SLI rig blue screened playing Dragon Age with the new 196 drivers.

haven't installed them myself because of this issue but this isn't the 1st time a driver change has disabled overclocking, rivatuner has made a new version a few times to reenable it

Bugreport is submitted to NVIDIA, seems like a trivial driver bug rather than evolutional overclocking interface change.

Thanks for the heads up, I'm happy enough with the nVidia drivers I'm using atm, so I will be staying away from these new ones.

Ive been using 186.18 for ages.

So far these have been the best drivers for my GTX285, dont know how nvidia are bringing out worse drivers

Seems weird this got through WHQL lol... not good drivers for me either :( same slowdowns as before... so far can't get past 191.07 without something being broke :S

Not generally... rivatuner used to need regular updates to support new drivers but thats due to the more complex nature of rivatuner compared to other overclocking utilities.

191.07 for windows 7 64bit with my GTX 260 SLI setup
195.62 for Windows 7 64bit for my GTX 260m laptop
195.62 for Windows XP 32bit single GTX 260

I've not tried the things that cause problems on the SLI setup on my laptop but everything else works fine with newer drivers.

With anything newer than 191.07 on my SLI setup several games/applications like the heaven benchmark, serious sam HD and some source games stall on a black screen for 10 seconds every 30-40 seconds or so when in 3D.

Rivatuner supports a ton of low level features like device ID spoofing, fan profiles, etc. so it needs to be updated with anything other than minor driver revisions.

Noob question but I have recently upgraded to Windows 7 from XP. Windows XP I used to unistall the old drivers, re-boot and re-install the driver of my choice.
Windows 7, I unistall the old driver and re-boot, Windows 7 then proceeds to install drivers and I don't seem to get a choice. The only solution I can see is to either install on top of the old (or newer) drivers or to boot in safe mode.
Help would be appreciated.

I just install over the top in Win7 - doesn't even need a reboot.

Hope thats not the cause of the problems I'm having but short of taking drastic measures you can't really do much else.

seems like normal semiaccurate scaremongering to me ...if you go and read the original expreview article out of the 4 overclocking apps they tried, 1 worked fine, two allowed core and memory clocks to be adjusted and only 1 failed to enable clock adjustments.

I'm sure that clocking functionality hasn't been removed, just changed enough for the overclocking apps no longer works.

Yeh good spot, probably just duff drivers.
