Hi. I have XFX GeForce 7800GTX 256mb card running on Windows XP professional SP2. I'm going to rebuild my system, and need to know what the latest drivers are for the graphics cards. From what I can gather on the Nvidia website, the latest one is 93.71.

Is this correct, or am I looking at the wrong thing?

As you can tell, I'm a noob!
 
Blimey... 37 views in a Graphics Card forum, and no one can answer a noob like myself as to what is the latest Nvidia graphics card driver!!!!

Good job I asked the same question in the PC Games Forum... and swiftly received an answer within 6 views of the question!

Just go to the Nvidia site, select download drivers, pick your graphics card then your OS and it takes you to the latest drivers....

We just assumed you meant something more than just going to the nvidia website. Why wouldn't the drivers from there be the latest drivers?

Ask a question, that might seem too straightforward, and get no response... question ones technical knowledge, and get a response within 4 minutes!!!

Thankfully the guys who helped me out in the PC Games Forum were not quite so anal and didn't feel the need to question my technical knowledge, appear patronizing or dismiss my reason... they just answered the quesion that was in front of them!!!

It was a question regarding a driver for a... wait for it... Graphics Card!!!

How silly that I should place such a question into a Graphics card forum... however, based on your response I'd of had a more constructive and intelligent answer from the Music Forum!!!
 
Perhaps people thought you had answered your own question by visiting the Nvidia website. After all they are the poeple that write the drivers. Just a thought.

If you want help from the people on these forums I would advise you to loose the attitude.

You ask a question and nobody answers quickly enough for your liking, you then question the people who use these forums are shout from the roof tops about another wonderful forum.

What exactly were you expecting?

Apologies if I offended people... just don't appreciate scarastic responses to what others on these forums deemed a, albeit simple, but vaild question.

Apologies, no sarcasm intended. With ATi there seems to be a lot of debate over which drivers are better for which cards, and (correct me if I'm wrong) sometimes older drivers are better.

Normally with Nvidia (again, if I'm wrong please jump in) the newest drivers tend to be the best. I was initially wondering if the question was perhaps more complex than I initially thought, and that there was a 'best nvidia driver version' that I wasn't aware of.

Yeah. I've read this on a few different forums... but my technical knowledge doesn't really run that far, I'm afraid. The long and the short of it is that I'm looking to rebuild my system over the weekend, and intend to update my drivers for the first time. Nvidia do give some advice on how to do this 'correctly', but when looking at the site, I found downloads for both a driver and something called nTune... I then managed to confuse myself, and began questioning what was the driver, and if both are needed. It now seems I only need the driver as, forgive me if I'm wrong, the nTune is more an overclocking thing.

Updating your drivers for the first time... Might be interesting to do some 3d Mark runs before and after the rebuild inc new drivers, to see the effect.

I always try to note the change in boot time, helps justify the rebuild IMHO :)

I've decided to rebuild for 2 reasons to be honest. Firstly I'm putting a Wireless PCI card into my machine... should be fun, as I'm not the most competent PC user!!! Secondly, I finally got fed up with Norton, in regards to the 11 processes it dumped into my task manager everytime I boot up, and the general system hog it has become.

Thought I might as well kill 2 birds with one stone... and in the process, tidy up my system generally.
 
The Guru3d.com forums are always a good place to go for nvidia card and driver info. The latest 90 series drivers seem to be riddled with bugs for a lot of people. I've used the 85.96 drivers off guru3d for quite a while as they seem to work very well for me. But keep in mind that a driver that works well for one person will not necessarily work well for another, so testing a few different ones for yourself is always worthwhile.
 
I will just say that i use the 91.47's and they have been as solid as a Stallions wang.
In games BF2 + All add-ons, RFactor, LFS, PES6, COD2, RBR, AOE3, FARCRY, Steam etc etc etc
It also plays all my porn perfectly no matter what dodgey site i may visit.

91.47's for the win.
