Im looking to potentially add some further storage space to my setup and have been following perpendicular storage since the infamous Hitachi ad ;).

So apart from the Seagate 7200.10s, what other drives are out there (or due to be out there) to support this new tech?

Cheers

Anyway,

Whats the possibility of WDs Raptors using perpendicular technology? I cant see there being any real issue in just incorporating the tech, perhaps redesigned read/write heads to cope with the increased datastream. So watch this space - 10,000RPM drives with nearly 300GB capacity and only a bit more expensive ;)

I dont think the new Seagates 7200.10 are that special tbh, its more that they are using new tech which obviously makes them better than the existing competition. The same thing happened when Maxtor adopted SATA2/NCQ properly for their DM10 products and look how 'average' they became.

Really looking forward to what WD and Hitachi have up their sleeves, WD in the possiblity of adding this to their Raptors and Hitachi have always produced some very fast and reliable drives...

Conversely how does this effect SCSI drives since perpendicular technology only effects platter data density and how data is organised and not the interface? Perhaps it brings SCSI drive cost per GB into an affordable bracket for people who think Raptors are too slow :p.
