Some may know my local BP garage charge through the roof for their Ultimate fuel.. well when filling the company van up I saw how much it was today..

£1.29

I tend to put in the Tesco super unleaded as it is only a couple of pence more than standard. Unfortunately the nearest Shell garage is 15-20miles away.

Good old BP. My local BP garage on the A1 recently had regular unleaded priced at 1.16p. Yet drive 5 miles away to the next one and it's 1.03 p =/

20p a litre more is ridiculous. Spose they are just gouging those Impreza etc. owners who'll pay it whatever.

Jesus! I paid 115.9p/l for BP Ultimate the other day which was a joke, but the Shell had closed temporarily so I didn't have any choice

Oooof, I thought I was being taken for a ride when I filled up at £1.20 at Donington!!

I put Optimax in my car today by mistake, it seems to have little impact on the RS4 which suprised me no end, and that was £1.12 per litre. I never normally check but I was bored.

What do you normally fill up on? I ask as Audi only say 420PS/430Nm and 21mpg using 98 RON fuel, and that anything lower will result in a "slight" reduction in performance.

Well, that’s an interesting question, and needs some clarity...

Since I took delivery of the car I have felt it lacked spark, lacked a little performance and simply felt sluggish or for want of a better word 'flat'. I was getting a very slight hesitation under hard acceleration and over 6K it seemed to loose sharpness and fall away which is not quite what it was supposed to do.

I had it checked by the 'experts' who said "nah, its fine" but 2 weeks back I had an emissions light appear on the dash and took it back to Audi to sort it. They found out there was a problem with the engine breathing, hence the light, and hence my conclusion that it wasn't right, which it wasn't. During this time I had changed between Optimax and normal Unleaded and it made no difference.

However, now they have sorted it, its pulling as I would expect 420ps to pull, like a rocket and the hesitation and the drop off over 6K has gone now, and it pulls like a train all the way to the limiter. It feels like I have gained 50 horses and it is MUCH better. So today I went Optimax and I will see if this now improves it again.

I now have an RS4 that pulls like I would expect.

Ouch.

Doesn't seem to make much difference to my car so bar the four tanks of super I bought to see if I noticed a difference it has and will run on regular until/if I remap it. Even then with stupid prices I might just get it mapped for 95 RON.

Some ECU's require a reset to adjust to the fuel as once they've had lower grade fuel they won't adjust to better fuel. Hopefully the RS4 will adjust itself back to 98+ RON
