Gave up on Winamp sometime ago when the last few updates just caused it to crash on launch but thought I'd give it another go. Installed fine, started playing some music but then I noticed that it was using around 50% CPU time on all 4 cores of my quad. Closed it down and CPU usage went down to idle, opened up WMP and 1-2%, anybody else seen this with Winamp?

The lastest Winamp is dreadful. It crashed on me all the time [i.e. about five times a day], it was infuriating.

I rolled back to 5.2, haven't had any problems since.

I actually bought Winamp about 2 years ago for the MP3 ripping etc. I used it a fair bit to listen to music and set it up nicely with ogg files. A patch came out and no matter what I did it would crash, and became completely unuseable, but since the patches were mainly 'security' patches, I didn't want to get screwed over without the protection of the latest patch.

Haven't used it for about a year now as I was peed off after about 3 months trying to get around the issues.

Do you have any visualisations running? I tried them a while ago and the CPU usage went through the roof. Otherwise it was fine.
winamp lite & properly managed folders (no agent or library) is the best for cpu usage
So you just double click on a file or right-click on a folder to play it?

I could probably do this. My songs are all organised into folders and subfolders. :)

D:\Winamp\Led Zeppelin\Physical Graffiti\Disc 1\3 - Kashmir.mp3. Just an example of how it is organised.

I could also enqueue folders to play when I've already got a folder playing? I like Winamp but I can't really get used to the size of the media library so I could change over.
