its when you go to enter a command on a computer, and the spelling, or grammar, or punctuation etc. is wrong.

its the computers way of saying

Really though, how often do you use the word syntax outside of computing? Maybe linguists use it occasionally but apart from that most people would never use it. I don't think I'd ever heard the word until I started programming.

I used it a lot in GCSE English, along with context, onomatopoeia, metaphor, simile, verbs, nouns and protrusions.
