As it was sunny and nice this past weekend, i got myself out, cut the lawn etc etc, never thought to ask on here til now but at the bottom of our garden, the lawn is always quite 'damp'.

I know this is because it rarely gets a lot of sun, due the position of the house and the fence but is there anything you can suggest to dry it out?.

I've thought about attacking it with a garden fork to let air into the lawn but is there anything else you can think of?.

skip the shoes the spikes generally are not long enought to do the job properly, fork it for a proper job, if you still have damp problems also make sure you give it a good rake to get out all the matted layers and consider spreading some sand over the top after you've forked.

Aha thanks for that, how much sand are we talking here? - A light dusting or more?.

Really want to get involved in the garden this year, ghetting the youngsters involved too, so want to make it nice :)

If your going to fork it over you need to fill each little hole you make with sharp sand, you can then continue with the shoes in between to keep it aerated.
