Hi, just wanted to find something out about resolutions and LCD monitors... If I brought a 22" monitor with a 'resolution' of 1650x1050 would the image quality look degraded in any way if I was to run it at, say... 1248x1024? I only ask this because my dad wishes to buy a 22" monitor but I am worried that the GPU will struggle when it comes to playing games in that rez, would I be able to run it at a lower rez and have no unexpected outcomes? I do the same with my current monitor... It is a 19" so 'resolution' of 1248x1024 but I run it at 1024x768 and in some ways I prefer it. Just wondered if any of you have done this on a 22" LCD monitor or if you could give it a quick test and tell me if it makes any difference like blurriness, fuzziness etc. Thanks :)

This would very much depend on which monitor you buy and also depends on whether the monitor has certain features e.g. 1:1 pixel scaling.

What is your current graphics card and what monitor did you have in mind?

Well the GPU he will be having is a 6800GT OC to a Ultra realy... I have played BF2142 on max settings at 1248x1024 but am weary about it on a 1650x1050 rez...

Forgot to mension he thinking about the LG L226WTQ

avoid at all costs, lcd's in non native look horrific, dont care what it is. 6800GT should do the job at 1680 anyway, my laptops 6600go can play games reasonably at 1680 which surprised me.

You only need to avoid it if you can't run in 1:1 mode.

1:1 just means you'll have black bars at the edges as the active area is reduced to match the resolution you are using so with 1280x1024 on a 1680x1050 will look fine is you have 1:1 but I agree it will not look good without it.
