LCD, LED or Plasma?

yeah, the xel1 has a half-life of 17,000 hours apparently, or 708 days 24 hours a day, 2,125 days @ 8 hours a day.... 5.8 years in other words before the display reaches half brightness. compare that to the 60k or 100k hours half life being quoted now for lcd and plasma and its obvious its at a disadvange. i would expect 10 years from a display really.

I thought the bigger problem with OLED was the different rates at which the different colours degrade, with blue degrading in approx. a third of the time green does for example, meaning that even if the specified life of the lowest performing colour is say, 20,000 hours, you may find after 10,000 the difference in degradation has caused a pretty blatant colour cast over the entire screen anyway.

That was the last thing I had read about also, but have an inkling I heard that they might have solved this.

Meh, I'l just wait and see.

The V range is inferior to the W from what remember, don't know the exact differences though. But I would still take the panny over the W, so the V shouldn't even feature. But I suppose it's the 52 size which increases the price that much.

Another important thing to consider that might change the tech type is, how light is the room, window locations etc, and when is the tv mostly used ?

Thanks Ad,

What about suitability to MCE use? and compatibility? I'm sure there was some one on here who posted photos of this setup so I'm sure it works.

I'm hazarding a guess that MCE is media centre windows ? Why would compatability with it be a problem, the tv would just be used as a monitor surely.

Not up on this connecting your pc to tv malarky :D:D

I can't bare to get rid of mine. Upscaled dvd (it's a 1080i JVC crt) looks superb. When it comes to sd material I wouldn't trade it for any panel.

It's a shame HD crts didn't take off in this country.

I didnt know they made HD CRTs

The Samsung model was poo - I had one for 3 hours before getting the guy who delivered it to pick it up on the way back to the depot. There were plenty of decent ones, though, particularly in Japan and the States.

I looked into getting one a couple of years ago but all the reviews and user reviews were not particularly favourible.

Pity as the idea was pretty good, quality of a CRT but with HDness :)

certainly used to be the case. I dont know if they've made in progress in that area.
