LCD or Plasma (£500 approx)?

guys, if for example i'm watching a 1080p avi file on a 720p plasma - is that going to cause any problems or quality issues? I'm considering getting a 37" screen and can't decide between a 1080p lcd or on of this px80 plasmas which get such good reviews. I'm mainly using it for hdtv movies and xbox 360, but there will of course be some sd and lower res avi files etc watching...any thoughts?
I have a 37" 720p Panasonic plasma and it downscales 1080p output (Blu-rays) from the PS3 without any problems at all. Looks fantastic. :D

OK, I bit the bullet and bought the LE40A556P........and I'm THRILLED! :)

Really pleased initially when I first switched on to SD Sky, then I connected my XBOX and PC and was blown away.

Now, just have to trawl through the internet for some tweaks/picture settings guides etc.........

I was concerned initially pic motion blur/judder, but just watching the footy (Germany / Turkey) and again, thrilled.

Thanks for everyones advice, I'm one happy TV owner!

Take a look at them they are made with messurment equipment and are close to reference point in color reproduction.

Backlight, contrast and brightnas you should adjust to your own preferences/watching conditions - but those are very good.

This settings are for movie watching - not for sport.

Original Thread you can find at avsforum in calibration section.

Do firmware update to newest version if you will see out of focus issue it will fix it (dont do it if you do not experience it).

If you got any questions I know quiet a lot about this TV so you can always PM me or ask here as you wish.

In real life it shouldn't cause any issues and you should be aware that a 1080p image on a 1080p screen won't neccessarily look better than than a 1080p image on a 720p screen, in fact the 720p could be better. Again it varies from screen to screen.

Just to clarify 1024x728 is not a 720p even - those plasmas scale from 1080p to even lower then 720p as they does not support natively 720p...

Cheers

It's actually 1024x768 and it's still capable of producing a better picture than a 1080p screen.

All I'm trying to say is that just because one screen is 720p and the other is 1080p it doesn't necessarily mean that the 1080p gives the better image.

PJHUK, glad you've found a TV and you like the picture, that's the only thing that counts when picking a TV really.

Doesn't the TV actually display 1024x720?

Either way, more pixels does not necessarily mean a better picture.
