Howdy guys,

ive been looking for a 50" TV for a while. i would like HD 1080p but im unsure about which to have? LCD or Plasma?

Ive noticed that the LCD's are more expensive compared to Plasma.

Is there a big difference?

I would like to use the screen for my laptop aswell.

Cheers

If you can afford it then a 1080p plasma, namely the Pioneer, will wipe the floor with any LCD (or plasma) that's currently available.

If you can't stretch to that, then you need to consider your requirements. If you're going to use the TV as a PC screen a fair amount, then LCD is probably the best option.

However for everything else (DVD / HD / Gaming) the newer Pioneer Kuro 720p plasmas will be perfect. There's a lot of obsession with 1080p, despite many 720p screens offering a far superior picture to most 1080p screens. So just ask yourself what's more important, resolution or picture quality? If you're using it as a PC screen a lot then it's a harder choice.. :p

But if you can stretch to the 1080p Pioneer then you'll be sorted in all camps :D

Atm, plasmas have better contrast than LCD. However there's another technology taking off in japan, OLED's that offer really good contrast are similar to LCD's, so expect that to replace both plasma and LCD. Not anytime soon, but just keep ya eye out ;-)
