LCD Problem

Hey,

I just bought an LCD TV from a closing down sale at a local outlet. They advised that the product was 'refurbished' and has no warranty and no-return. Sold as seen basically. It is a 26" Samsung and after looking on a few websites it retails at £600 - I got it from £150.

HOWEVER....

It has a dark 'smudge' on it. When looking at a certain angle on a black screen it is like someone is pressing their finger on it - it is like a purpley colour. You can't really see it from normal viewing angle on dark screens but on bright colours/backgrounds it is incredibly annoying. It looks like a grease stain.

Now I can't take the product back, but is there any way to repair myself? I have heard of 'massaging' the screen and the like? Or is it possible to clean the inside of the screen or is this the job of Samsung repair guys who will probably charge me an arm and a leg!?

No the massaging technique only applies to stuck pixels. Sounds like pressure has been applied to the screen and damged it. It's not serviceable i'm afraid, all you could do is buy a new panel for it and have an engineer replace.

However regardless of the nature of it's sale your statutory rights can not be waived and you still have the right to return the item within 2 weeks for a full refund. It may be difficult to get though if they are stubborn becuase if you need to take them to a small claims court the process may be longer than the existance of the company :(

Thanks guys. I called the shop up, they said I could take it back within 14 days if I wanted However, upon looking closely, it isn't THAT noticeable. I watched it all morning - you can only see it if you are looking for it. Plus the screen quality is so good and the sound is so good, I think I might keep it!

Thanks for your help anyway!

who and where is the shop? if you can say

It's an independent shop on the Wirral, Merseyside. Called JQ's Electronics. They're in the phone-book I think. My mate picked up a 40gb (I think) iPod for £10 but the screen is cracked and unusable. He is using it as a portable HDD atm, but is pricing up replacement screens.
