i got hold of a Mitsubishi XL5U and im looking to see if there is away to tell how many hours that the lamp has done, i downloaded the manual and it just siad about the status light flashing when the lamp gets to 1,500 hours and then at 2,000 it wont even switch on

anyone know?
thanks
:)

there should be a lamp timer in the projector's on screen menu somewhere that tells you either how many hours have passed (most likely) or how many hours are left.

yea i did have a poke around on there and could not find it :( and read the manual back to front

thanks anyway man ;)

PS
the image is really bright, so im guessing its not done a stupid amount of housrs :D

I did...read the manual back to front.

...maybe you should read the manual the right way round...? :D

The truth is, even those lamp hour counters are just a basic guide. They don't take into account the brightness setting for those hours, and (if you bought this second hand, for example) can easily be reset without you knowing.

If you're a praying man, try saying Grace prior to each power-up. If you're not a praying man, maybe now would be a good time to start... :)

Do also check for any dust filters that may need cleaning. If the lamp module gets hotter than it should due to blockage, its life will reduce considerably - that was a lesson I had to learn the hard way...

just been through the manual and it seems there is no lamp timer lol

as you said, theres an LED that starts blinking red when it reachers 1500 hours, you get a messgae on screen when it reaches 1900 and at 2000 just refuses to turn on, though if its run in low lamp mode the manual reckons you'll get 5000 hours out of it. may be worth doing to get a bit more life out of it, even though it wont be anywhere near 5000, should be a bit more than 2000 i reckon, especially if its kept well ventilated with clean filters. only thing you'll notice in low lamp mode is a slightly less bright picture and maybe quieter fan operation

yea i bought it 2nd hand damm cheap ;)

i did check the unit for dust and agian looks like it has not been used for long filters are a little dusty but not bad, the image does look good! watched a movie on it and hooked it up to my pc for a while and colours are spot on and really bight, even in lamp saving mode

im just looking on ebay and theres a lamp on there atm i might buy it for a spare...

thanks guys

EDIT
even if after 2000 hours i will just reset the thing to see if i can get more out of it ;)

I have the same model projector ceiling mounted for about 3 1/2 years and still on the original bulb on lamp saving mode.

It gets used between 10 and 20 hours a week so probably done between 3000 and 4000 hours, not yet seen any blinking lights or warnings yet, and I have only removed the filter and vacuumed it clean once about 6 months ago.

I bought it as a cheap entry into home cinema and was going to replace it with a 720P model after about 12 months, but it has been very impressive for the price and will probably now be replaced once 1080P models get more sensible in price.
