I currently own a 46" sony LCD and im thinking of upgrading to a sammy 50" plasma.

Only reason being really is for the better SD picture.

The only thing worrying me with plasma is image burn....i use my current LCD with my mac mini for PLEX media center.Do you think running media center on a plasma could cause image burn?

Does anyone do the same with any problems?

Thanks

Don't worry about image burn. Keep contrast and brightness at medium, don't use 'Dynamic' or whatever Sammy call their 'garish bright high-contrasty for people who don't know better mode' and don't do anything that 'might' cause screen burn for the first 200 hours of use. After that do what you like. I've pretty much abused my Panny plasma , leaving it on all night with static images, paused on games, watches cbbc (DOG) 12+ hours a day. No issues at all. Image burn is an old problem. Also plasmas are rated for like 100,000 hours to half brightness these days. Work it out. That's a long time.

Have to agree with this, as long as you treat it well in the first 200 hours then you'll be fine. Mine has never had any image retention that i've noticed

I was scared when i went to plasma (PX37 panny) however its brilliant, i use it for PS3 and never had any problems.

Note that image retention and image burn (screen burn are different) Burn is bad. But I have seen IR on my plasma a few times. But ONLY when going from something contrasty to a black screen. i.e when I have say EPG on screen and then change input to AV2 befor switching the Wii on. You can still see the outline of the EPG on the black screen. This is IR. As soon as you change the picture i.e. turn the Wii on it goes away. Image burn doens't go away. CRT's to a certain extent exhibit Image retention as well in the same scenario. It's absolutely normal and nothing to be worried about.
CRT also exhibit screen burn, you have probably seen an old security CCTV monitor with the time code permantly etched in the corner of the screen. that's burn.

We have a plasma in the reception at work which had for about 2 years now been showing the same text in the same places. It has burn - noticeable if you look closely. I'd expect a CRT in that situation would have burn as well.

Plasmas are a lot brighter in their first 100 hours or so, but there is usually a mode for subdued colours to use during this period.

ive not fiddled with mine snce i had it ( the plasma tv set that is lol ). Panasonic TXP37C10 had it nearly 2 months now and its brilliant :D 720p but more than good enough for me
