LCD TV recommendations?

Ah, what about blacks, SD material etc?

And now onto the serious questions ;)

What TV is it best to pour my money into at the moment? A panny? probably go 40 or 42", or 46" if the cost isn't too much more!

Blacks are worse on LCD I believe, don't know if it depends on the tv in question for SD material. Plasma's I'm sure do have some benefits, I have no idea what they are though.

I'd say go 42" 1080p minimum.

LCD's now have good black levels, it's still not true black, but with the adjustable backlight you can adjust it. Unlike PC monitors where it's fixed and really grey. Of course if you reduce backlight you loose overall brightness. I have my backlight set to 50%

SD scaled to 1080p is actually very good, use sources with low compression and it looks great. I plugged my Samsung M86 downstairs for Freeview and it looks perfectly watchable with decent levels of detail.

Panasonic don't produce a LCD bigger than 32" afaik.

Not sure what red push is. :o

Pretty sure it's one setting for all (except VGA), might be better with seperate settings per input but as I don't really know too much about the settings I just went onto avforums and got some settings off there.

That's the cheapest one I could find, looks decent for the price.

Indeed, probably going to get one, says the SD quality isn't so great but I mainly watch TV shows on my PC so only interested in the HD quality.

I do use Freeview for Corrie and Eastenders however. :p

I saw an LG at the local every little helps store, was 40", had a dog awful source though, looked like VHS split multiple times over the bank of TV's!

LCD it is though, will have to save my pennies! Fending off all the bills as it is, as soon as the gf starts getting paid things will be better and I can have a telly, yay!

Ugh yeah most shops I've looked around always have the LCD's hooked up to normal TV or VHS and it looks dire 90% of the time.

I'm sure the SD quality will be adequate, just not great in comparison to high end LCD's. I'm the same, I've bought both my HDTV sets for HD material. Anyone buying a HDTV and just running their normal Sky box through it is an idiot.

Yep the SD on my little 19" Samsung isn't very good but I don't really care about that, saw other sites saying the LG looks excellent through HD sources so that's me sold. :)

Was going to get a Bravia 40" for about £600 but it didn't do 1080P at that price obviously and I need 1920x1080 for my PC to look decent on it. :D

Thought money was tight? :p

I wouldn't even bother with a 37" that wasn't 1080p, which is a bit of a price increase.
Well, it is only less than £100 to go for 37" but wait and see! :D

For 1080p, I read somewhere that most games for PS3 and 360 run at 720p natively? I'm not sure that you can see a big improvement over the 720p but I haven't seen it myself though.

I just got a samsung 46" 1080p LCD this week, and its got the PS3 and the 360 hooked upto it. One word... AWESOME :D I sit about emm 10-12 feet away at a guess and its defintely not too big. Its just the right size, glad I got this one because I was seriously considering the 40" which I think would have been too small. 46" doesn't seem that large if the room is big.

Samsung LCDs are great btw, I've got a 26" 720p one in my bedroom too which is also brilliant :)

All comes down to budget.

720p on a 32" set is more than adequate if money is a factor. If not and you want a tv upwards of 37" then I'd say it's pretty much essential you go for a 1080p set.

I wouldnt really agree with that Wedgie, I have had the 40" Sony Bravia W2000 which was 1080p, swopped it for a 55" 1080p Rear projection, and then swopped that for a Sony 40D3000, 1080i (although it does do 1080p, its scaled), the picture on the 40D3000 is actually better than the W2000 was.

I dont think a 1080p set is worth it until you get to at least 46".
