Think he's given up
Was it last year that an Audi got back to the pits with no front end and both front wheels pointing in different directions?
Driver got out and was hacking at some of the remaining cables and stamping on bits to break them off and just wrenching at chunks. Was funny as hell to watch from the interior camera.
Part of me applauds Nissan for trying something so different and radical.
Another part of me feels they've tried to run before they can walk and have embarassed themselves in the process. They should have waited until next year.
We're always hearing about how great marshalls are and how they give up their time to ensure the safety of drivers and fans.
For every good one however, there's a total muppet. Far too many of them seem to be on a bit of a power trip and think they're in charge of the race, or at least their little section of it. They're there to help out, not decided whether a driver can or should try to get a damaged car back to the pits. If they think there's a genuine safety concern then they should report it to the race director for him to make a determination.
I doubt very much the driver would listen to the marshals (he tried to run one over ), this has all the feeling of it actually being Race Control telling him to stop .
I really should go to bed... but I can't drag myself away!

Oh yeah I remember. Hit the barrier at one of the chicanes?
Didn't he basically tell the marshalls to **** off, threw the bonnet at them, and drove home?
