I still think my analogy was fine. The PS3 tech han't show too much difference up until now. Natal at this stage has more of an 'unknown' quality about it.

I've always thought of myself as a 'proper' gamer having been into gaming since the mid-80's, and whilst I wouldn't claim the Wii is the greatest Nintendo console ever I have enjoyed Wii Sports, Super Mario Galaxy, Zelda TP, SMB Wii, MK, Wiiware/Virtual Console et all.

If fact, I'm being open minded.
 
I have some minor RSI, so I'm all up for a new motion control system :D Looks quite easy to control as well. I think you might be able to sit down and still play as it only involves moving hands/arms.
 
To me it seems like Microsoft trying to cash in on the alternative control method type crowd. People who buy a Wii only to use it non stop for about 3 days and then leave it on a shelf to collect dust.

Totally agree with what Azagoth said. I share the same opinion of wanting to just relax when playing a game and not jump around like a ****ing fool.
 
Looks decent enough IMO
Sure I would use a standard controller 90% of the time but nothing wrong with having an option to play an alternative way.
 
I'd be awesome playing cod online with this system as I rarely move, will be a good system for oneshot the amount he runs around, he will be 3 stone in no time ;)

My Wii hasn't been used much this Christmas, but then I got 4 or 5 PS3 games to play. It is used regularly however, and has been since launch. Not really jumped around like a fool/spastic either aside from Wii Sports (Resort) or Wii Fit. :p

Not sure about Natal as a control scheme on it's own, but I know I really like the way the Wii controls work for FPS and I'm sure they're good for RTS (though we've not seen a proper one aside Pikmin). I'm still not so hot on analogue sticks for FPS.

This seemed an odd way to control a game like HL2, but then it's probably a proof of concept. I'm sure it wouldn't appear as cool if it weren't for the about-life-size screen which makes it more immersive. We'll see.
 
Well that hardly proves that FPS games will work on Natal. When are they going to demonstrate how the shooting aspect of a first person shooter will work?

All they've done there is demonstrate how to look around with added motion blur.
 
Microsoft can always add some kind of peripheral like the Wiimote or the ***** Wand. The Natal camera is a superior version of the Eyetoy so it would be able to track a pointing device.
 
I like the idea, but I honestly can't see how they are going to beat a mouse and keyboard for fast and accurate aiming, can't see this working well for FPS! :\
 
I've had a wii, sold it and got another. I'm fortunate enough to have access to both an xbox and a ps3. I think most people underestimate the wii's appeal. I've hated pretty much every 'game' on it once the initial 5 minutes of 'ooo this is novel' has worn off but still love wii play, sports, fit and now sports resort. There's nothing like a room full of slightly inebriated friends / relatives waving their wands around, except maybe the same room 4 bottles of wine etc later. This is what the wii excels at and was made for - multiplayer with real people in the same room you can laugh at...

My only gripe with the wii as above is it's sensitivity, something the new wii mote plus thingy hasn't made much of an improvement on so far imo. If Natal can give the xbox a range of similiar games only much more accurate and without a silly white dong in your hand MS will be laughing all the way to the next gen in a few years. Cash cows don't last forever and the natal may just be the calf there looking for.

oh and laugh lots at groin thrust boom headshot! Guess Bill Gates better invest in either Ariel or Imperial dry cleaning or maybe both :)

My only dislike of the Wii control method is the fact that no matter how 'accurate' they make the controlers it seems every game just comes down to either flailing wildly or making the move you want the game to recreate, only for it to misread your movements and do something else.

The problem isnt so much the controllers, it's the reciever.
