tldr: Will it be a problem to fill my loop with X1 Clear when there is still some deionised water left in the loop from leak testing?

---

I have finished putting together my system and have arrived at the leak testing part. I plan to leak test with deionised water, drain the system, then add my X1 Clear.

When I drain my loop, I will end up with some water trapped between my GPU and front radiator - the rad is mounted with ports at the bottom. While I could (hopefully) get this out with some tilting, the system is so heavy I can barely lift it, let alone tilt it in every direction.

Would it be an issue to add the X1 Clear, with some (~200ml?) dionised water left in the loop?

I could buy and add some Mayhems Non Stain Dye to boost the biocides.

It won't matter. If you've used de-ionised water on its own you probably won't get any growth anyway. I've used tap water in a rig for months without growth although I don't recommend it.

Just use mayhems X1 concentrates.. It states on the bottle to mix 250ml of concentrate with 750ml of DI water.. in your case, perfect! you can always drain a little bit out the loop, then add the X1..

I use distilled with the X1 concentrates, mainly as we have so many issues with de-ionised + inhibitors in work (we have lots of copper based heating/cooling equipment) that sometimes oxidise more than they should, and we've had to switch to disilled + inhibitors which is working out much better, although that's more industrial usage, not home usage!

Thanks for the advice Mike.

Yes, I did consider that! My system takes pretty much exactly 1L of fluid, so could just dump 250ml of concentrate straight in. I guess I could continue to use the DI water while waiting for delivery.

The other way if you have premix is just to add that to the loop, the DI or distilled water in their isn't going to harm, and you can always top up the with X1 concentrate anyway to give it a boost.

However, I just find it so much more convenient to leak test with DI or distilled and add the concentrates once happy!
