Leakbot?

Just been emailed by Admiral that i'm eligible for a free leakbot device with my home insurance to detect water leaks, has anyone used these?

Without googling, I suspect these are just like the hundreds of other smart water detection devices that you place on the floor near a potential water source which then sounds an audible alarm when water is detected.

My brother has one, it clips on a pipe and detects small water flows when not expected.. it triggered from 2 of his toilet fill valves slowly leaking, however they needed doing and it was a good use case of how it might help..

The issue IMO is it needs pairing with an automated shut off valve.. if you got an alert whist not at home for any period of time, ideally you want the mains water switched off instantly..

I'd say a good setup is a leakbot for background detection, but also something like the iSpring LS43 with several sensors to protect all the main areas with water around so you get a more immediate and reliable detection.

How does it differentiate between a leak and me running a bath? does it only alert you after a period of time? if so thats a lot of water to leak before it bothers to let me know! ...... actually thinking about it, when I water the garden it'll be going off I expect, that can take 20 minutes sometimes.

Is it effectively just a usage monitor? Maybe it's looking for slow trickles?
