Learn Card Tricks

I bought a couple of packs of good poker cards, and learnt the basics first, rather than tricks. Eg how to shuffle without shuffling, cutting without cutting, how to present the card I want etc.
Then I learnt 4 tricks and practiced them until I could do them well. I really should get back into it as its good fun.

If you are going to learn, buy some Bicycle playing cards, buy the Tarbell Course In Magic (quite expensive), and then learn your own magic from that. 
It is a shame you get that impression, who have you seen do close-up magic? Professional magicians or magicians who are performing as so it is a puzzle? My magic is all about entertaining, I make people laugh, I get people involved, and I generally make people talk about it afterwards in a positive way. I know what you are talking about as I have seen younger magicians perform in that sort of way, basically showing off and being "better than everyone else".

Quality, easier to perform cleaner and smoother effects.
Have you tried a normal paper pack of cards compared to these? It is absolutely incredible.
All the casinos will tend to use them as they last a long time, quality is amazing, also when fanning or spreading the cards they spread evenly.
You couldn't really do this with paper cards:
Shuffle with a pack of normal cards, then shuffle with a pack of Bicycle.
It's like wearing a pair of cheap cycling shorts, and then trying a pair of Assos. Whilst you may have originally had a bit of cushioning, it now feels like your testicles are being tactfully cushioned by hand over the largest of bumps in the road.

I never really believed in it until he sent me asleep, plus did some other cool stuff like cold reading. It is very clever, yes there are trickery mentalism out there, but then there is real skilful mentalists who really could have a 30 minute conversation with you and find out pretty much anything about you, even though you have told him, you would not remember it. Very weird, and all to do with misdirection, psychobiology etc.
