Learning Chinese

i am still not sure about that, and i can speak 2 chinese dialect and english, 3 months it would be very rough, you might be able to say simple sentences but conversational is debatable.
That was my point, simple conversations.

You know: I am meghatronic, I come from England. Where are you from? Is it nice? Are you a student? Oh me too. I study Chinese.... etc ....

I'm going to China at the end of Uni to learn Chinese. Going to be out there for a year.

Will also use the opportunity to learn Tai Chi if possible, always wanted to learn a martial art.

Coming to China is the best place to learn Chinese. Immerse yourself in the environment, and you will be forced to learn. Also your accent will be a lot better than having learnt in UK.

I also think 3 months is pushing it for learning Chinese in UK. Especially if you believe you will be able to read and write after this time. I can now read quite a lot, but I can't write. However, I can type Chinese, and quite quickly. Learning PinYin is essential for typing Chinese, and most Chinese input methods are quite intelligent - the more characters you type narrows down the possible characters you can choose from.

Good Luck! and 新年快乐!

watch bruce lee movies....there is only abt 8 words to learn
woooo
yaaahhhhh
yeeee
wataaa!

see thats half of it right there

Me neither, as some of you know my gf is chinese, and i'm fed up with the flied wrice and number 69 jokes. It seems like you can still poke fun at the chinese and get away with not being called racest in the UK.

LOL! Your right, i've tried to teach my gf spanish but it's pointless because it has so many r's in it :D

I've had transgender prostitute comments as well about my gf, charming is'nt it?

I've been doing Japanese using the MTM I mention above. Just 2.5 hours in and I can already strike up a simple conversation like -

Where are you going? (どこに行きますか?)
Tomorrow, I'm going to Japan. (明日日本に行きます。)
Why are you going there? (どうしてそこに行きますか?)
Because I want to drink delicious sake! (おいしい酒を飲みたいですから!)

I bet if she didn't bet 50 quid but instead willing to sleep with you, you'll be fluent in Chinese within 3 months

Are you not just rote-learning things though? And copy-pasting japanese script...

:D The Japanese script, I'm writing myself. I know all the hiragana and how to change it to kanji.

I can't say if it's rote-learning. The test would be if I could say the same thing again next week.
