Learning Guitar

I know that, I mean I'm sure there was a band or someone who drew that actual diagram for something? I can't remember who

It was on that Story of the Guitar the BBC had on not too long ago

Hello Marky,

Wow thats a good repetoire! hope I'm going as well @ six months :) the only barre chord I'm learned so far is Bm

So I can strum along to Pink Floyds comfortably numb, I'm not finding it easy to include in progression but I'll get there :D

I'm working through some easy music reading at the moment mixed with chord progrssions and finger exercises and stretches, one thing a find weird though the calluses on my fingers tips are concentrated on the centre tip of each of the fingers lots of times the fingers are either sticking or slipping of the calluses as they're quite hard I suppose the callus will spread over more finger tip area in the months to come?

Yeah, after a while it will, you just get used to it really and dont need to press as hard as you might think.

If its hurting in a bad way obviously stop playing for abit, but a little pain is good as that means the calluses are developing.

I actually thought I would never pick barre chords up as I was properly useless and chords progression was a no-no lol, but every night an hour or so just experimenting, getting a feel for the guitar I managed to get the right sound, and to be honest I never sat down to begin with and said im gonna learn this song. The song was playing and I knew the chords and the two just went together and voila! The first song I learnt was Wonderwall :)

Practice makes perfect, a cliché but I can vouch for that :D

I like the sound of that, i get small glimpses at the moment of chords in songs but my brain holds the connection for a while then gives up but its there its alive lol

I must check wonderwall out see what the chords are like, its good for the head to play something and it's actually recognisable.

The practice part I realise is very important my instrumnet at the moment is and old Hohner acoustic, I like it better than my friends Encore Les Paul thingy. The Encore is like...really easy to play(practice) but it doesn't feel as good to play(practice) as my Hohner...now I'm confused.

Wonderwall chords are

Em7, G, Dsus4, A7sus4, Cadd9 pretty much

The bridge is where it changes but to begin with its a good start

And its easy because you can keep your pinky and ring finger on the bottom two strings the whole song and just move your index and middle :) The hardest part about playing the guitar is the strumming and finding the right rhythm

I have a Yamaha Acoustic and a Yamaha Pacifica, both good guitars imo :)

OH, and I forgot to add Oasis - Dont Look Back In Anger to my list :D

Thanks for the chords, just been learning about the sustain and adds :) the strumming appears to be where the work is ok, had a look through uTube for some help some good vides on it. Regards Yamaha I just bought the Yamaha Pacifa 112J lake placid blue I've been reading a lot of good reports about the pacifa model, so I took the plunge :)

HI i started playing guitar about 2 and bit years ago, the first song i learnt personally was nirvana -smells like teen spirit, which is not only extremly simple but satisfying and teaches you how to mute the strings which is a technique used commonly in rock metal etc etc, then i learnt i miss you -blink 182 which was a good thing as it teaches you a lot of sliding personally i think those two are good starting points as these two different techinques in the bag straight off the bat,
i then went straight up to voodoo child intro (jimi hendrix) which took bout 6 months to be able to learn properly but i only tried to learn voodoo child as it was my goal that i wanted to achieve with me playing guitar,

the thing i find is that you learn a song - get it down- then go back to it and improve upon it over and over. anyway enough rambling, im not sure if im allowed to link to this :s i dont see why not but if i cant then if a mod would be so kind to inform me and i will delete, theres a great site for learning guitar called justinguitar.com www.justinguitar.com which has a list of songs for u to learn, simplfied versions of songs that are normally for advanced players and well ascool videos to teach you various techniques

Thanks I will.

My latest songs I have learnt are Oasis - Roll With It and Oasis - Rock n Roll Star :D

Its amazing how im naturally just playing the guitar now as opposed to sitting/thinking/playing about for ages, it pretty much just comes to me now :)

Pfft way to much oasis talk in this thread!

go google

'Paul Gilbert'

:)

Not exactly easy though :p

Oasis = Almost anyone who has picked up a guitar can learn, good beginner material, etc.

Gilbert the God = No one in this thread can touch him. At all.

Thats probably why :D

Guys, are volume/tone pots hard to replace? anyone did a replacement/upgrade ?

Currenlty mashing strings with ACDC - Highway To Hell
