Learning RoR (Ruby on rails)

I've been doing a bit reading about and many people say to use Mac or Ubuntu if looking at working with RoR - is there a particular reason for this?

Are there any RoR programmers here - any advice?

I've just started. I think primarily the reason is the choice of editor - TextMate on mac has great RoR support and I assume people use vim or emacs on Linux. There are windows alternatives.

Having said that, it is likely you will be deploying to a Linux server so it might be beneficial to have a proper terminal. Personally I use mac osx and TextMate - highly recommended.
