How can I teach myself to draw?

I have a graphics tablet I bought mainly to start drawing, but I have a problem - I've never actually been able to draw very well.

Are there some good online resources that teach you the basics?

I found this website http://www.drawspace.com/ which seems ok but the lessons are tedious.

I want to draw the monster in this image http://blog.gameagent.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/01/Unreal_Tournament_2004_UT2004.jpg

How would I go about learning how to draw something like that? How would you approach drawing that? I really have no idea.

Thanks.

Are you talking about my reply? I often do that, just to add additional info I think is relevant.

Its for everyone

Unless you have some kind of physical impairment to the brain, this is not true.

My brother is mostly a self-taught artist and he sings praises about this book

All those books are BS. I tried one called 'how to draw anything', followed the guidelines for drawing people over a week, and was still no better than I started.

The truth is that anyone can draw. Being able to draw requires a lot of patience and practice, though some people pick it up faster then others. It's all about what goes on in your head. I've always been known to be good at drawing, and I've been through 3 years of Art & Design at college (Though to be fair, it wasn't all that helpful) but even now I'm still working on my technique and occasionally having a little trouble with what I'm trying to draw.

I'd recommend just practising and getting used to not only using the tablet and the program you're using, but just drawing lines and getting used to the feel of drawing. I think that even I would struggle with what you're trying to draw. I would start with easier things, but most of all to enjoy doing it. A lot of people get frustrated when they can't do something first time, the trick is to just not care about whether or not you're doing bad or good, but to just experiment and enjoy putting the lines and colours down.

Lots and lots of practice. You are not going to get instant results, set you expectations much lower to start with.

Don't forget the pro's draw for hours each day, you never going to get as good as them with a few hours a week practice.
