Hi guys,im learning to drive and had 3 lessons already and the guy said im doing better than he expected for somebody who never drove before and that im doing better than the majority of people that learn to drive lol(i dont know if he's bull****ing but maybe the computer games like dirt 2/3 helped me:p) he was surprised that i didnt need to look at the gearstick to change gears the first time because i was already familiar with the layout from all the racing games i've played lol.He said most people look at the gearstick and sometimes even down at the pedals when learning to drive at first but that just seems crazy to me:p

I've got this urge when steering to cross my arms over wich your not supposed to do(i always used to do it in the arcades lmfao) and i always catch myself just before i do it but he can see by the way i move my arms that i was about to cross my arms and changed my mind and says well done your learning lol( he suggested practicing rotating a dinner plate at home like a steering wheel as practice lol)

Im only getting 1 lesson a week because the guy is fully booked, would it be worth goin out with my mate to a bit of unused land on an old industrial estate and try to become more familiar with the clutch and gears and try to drill it into my head not to cross my arms when steering? I feel that i need more than just those 1 hour lessons to properly get the feel of driving.

The guys sent me an email from some organisation that teaches the theory etc but i done an online test and almost passed it without even studying lol:D

Any of you guys got tips for me,like do's and donts and good things to remember? i feel very nervous when im on the road but i drove the car back to my house by myself the last time and thats kinda boosted my confidence a bit.

Next week its 3 point turns im learning, scary!

Second tip.

Mirror, Signal, Manoeuvre and don't crash.

Third tip.

Have a double scotch before the driving test. :p

I'm sure that playing computer driving games actually improve your overall driving ability. Half of the theory is just bs you never even use in real situations such as stopping distances, you can just judge the distance yourself, why do you need to know the exact distance in metres? To be a good driver, just practice and learn from your mistakes. Never be overconfident though and always assume every other driver is a moron, never assume anything.

My biggest tip would be to be absolutely certain of your examiners lifestyle before "accidently" putting your hand on his thigh when reaching for the gearstick, I can tell you, judge it wrong and your method will have the opposite effect instead of getting you a pass

Stop saying 'lol' all the time.

Take it easy, don't take risks, listen to your instructor.

This and don't think you're the next big thing out on the road once you've passed. You won't be, you won't know it all and you'll have next to no experience so don't assume passing a driving test makes you a good driver.
