It's all about eco-driving now. Listen, learn and pass. Then post on OcUK when you've either crashed your car or knackered the gearbox...

On your driving test the examiner will expect you to:

Choose the right gear for the speed you need to travel at, and for the road conditions you face.
Change gear smoothly, safely and under control.

Return your hand to the steering wheel once you have changed gear.
Don't look at the gear lever while changing gear.
Don't coast with the clutch pedal down or the gear lever in neutral.

This stuff is on the test.

Let us say for the sake of argument that your driving instructor is not shining you on and is a better judge of your skill level than you are.

He is probably telling you to do x, y or z because you are doing it wrong.

If you can't deal with being told this by your instructor that is a separate problem and maybe you need a different instructor you can take criticism off but it honestly doesn't sound like he's not just trying to help you.
