I’m studying HTML & CSS and at the point where I’m going to be putting together very basic websites. I’m of the opinion that the graphics and images are all created in photoshop – otherwise they are going to look pretty poor using just basic html and css options.

I have no problem with this – however I’m a total novice using Photoshop. I used it once years ago on a friends Mac, which was good. Firstly, what version of photoshop do you recommend me using and also do you know of any books which will assist in topics which I will come across when designing and creating the backgrounds, headers, navigation bars , buttons etc?

I could, but don’t particularly want to go out and buy just any old photoshop book – as I think that would be overkill at this point.

Any advice is much appreciated.

Thanks

J

I don't think there's much point in buying a photoshop book.

The first thing is to learn how the basic tools work and their purpose. There's lots of guides and tutorials on this so have a google.

To actually be able to design something is something you can't really get out of a book. Have a look at websites like smashingmagazine.com or designfollow.com and get some inspiration.

Find a design you like - maybe take a look at themeforest.com - and try and recreate it in PS yourself from scratch. Then to complete the job slice it into HTML and CSS.
