Lease deals on tesla (model Y) seem cheap?

The Model Y is due a major refresh during the first quarter of next year, hence the lease deals.

The current the long range RWD model has by far the most range of any 'sensibly priced' 'SUV' at the moment and will do 300 miles (~6 hours) at up to 70mph. This doesn't change the fact it is still expensive like most new cars.

That said, the Tesla is not the only new car in town with good lease deals at the moment, there are good options all over the place. You can also spend a lot less money and buy used, lots of EV bargains out there at the moment.

Yeah I've seen the EV values tank after a while. To be honest I wouldn't want to own one as I've heard they can be have high maintenance costs.

Regardless that lease I initially looked at is too high,i wonder if the refresh will actually bring anything significant or reduce prices on previous models.

The opposite is true, they have incredibly low maintenance costs on any of the 'EV bits', everything else is just a car. Ask anyone who still has their original Leaf how much money they spend on keeping it on the road. The answer is essentially nothing.

Unlikely, they already depreciate 40-50% in 3 years. Perhaps those which are sold just before the swap over will drop a little quicker than those just after but that's normal and is a combination of the newer model holding its value as there will be hardly any in the used market compared to the old one.

Ah I've heard they can throw big bills and teslas build quality isn't brilliant.

To be honest as I do low mileage I'm tempted to just get a petrol motor.

Any car can throw big bills, but in principle, there is far less to go wrong in an EV than their is in a petrol/diesel car and there are no drive train components to service/replace over the lifetime of the car, the lifetime service cost is considerably lower than a petrol car. Everything else is just a normal car (e.g. suspension, tyres, brakes (not that you use those much).

What big bills do you think an EV is going to throw?

I'm 6 weeks into a 3 year model y lease . £4200 +300 a month (RWD model)

Never leased before , but this time
a) fancied my first new car
b) didn't want the unknown depreciation if I'd spent 30k on something used
c) didn't want the hassle of trying to sell
d) affordable
e) didn't want to run a Tesla without warranty

So far really happy with it...by no means perfect but it's decent enough.

Shame they charge £10 a month for premium connectivity and removed the full Spotify account.

How'd you get it for 300? / where from? Tesla stratford any good? My nearest.

It's a slightly different car...it only has I think 280 range, so not a long range.... It was direct with Tesla..
Not actually been to the Stratford dealership yet as I picked it up from their delivery centre near Barnt Green..

A Tesla could throw a big bill just like a BMW could throw a big bill. However, there's much less to go wrong in the first place and you have a 4 year warranty on everything plus an 8 year warranty on the battery.

The build quality thing dates back to pre-2020 when the cars were being built as fast as possible in the USA and had some rough edges. UK cars all come from Tesla Shanghai now and have excellent build quality compatible with their competitors from BMW, Audi, Mercedes etc.

Regarding depreciation - this is just "new cars depreciate". I bought a 6 month old BMW diesel with 12k miles for £22k a few years ago which was £40k new - just one of those facts of motoring life!
