Leatherman Multi-tool

Well I'm sure the OP has been stuck at home waiting to go back to uni for the last 14 months just waiting for you guys to reply.

I've heard of the police confiscating them from cars etc and sometimes doing the driver even though it seems perfectly reasonable to carry a multi tool in the glovebox. They don't see all the other tools, pliers etc on it, they just see the blade.

WTH did you bump this for?!

Silly bump really.

You need a reasonable excuse. Walking around town with it in your jacket pocket while you go food shopping is not a reasonable excuse.

Travelling to/from a place of a relevant profession/hobby/camping/otherwise is a reasonable excuse.

A multi-tool is not an offensive weapon per se, it all comes down to intention and circumstance. Carry it in the boot of your car in your tool kit and you could reasonably prove it's for said use. Carry it in the door card of your drivers door and expect to be questioned on that. Why does it need to be in your IMMEDIATE reach? If it's for working on car why is it not with your other tools for working on your car?

Travelling to a new residence, at university, with a multi tool gift IS a reasonable excuse. Assuming all the other circumstances corroborate that fact. IE - Car is full of your stuff.

No reason to make a big deal out of it. If you cannot immediately and reasonably answer why it is in your possession then you should not be carrying it.

Can you imagine being accosted in a dark alley by a chav with a Leatherman multi tool?

"Hang on, it's here somewhere, no that's the scissors, no that's the can opener, ah got it, the knife. Oh no that's the serrated one, I hate using that, just wait there while I get the other one out. Oh now it's locked in place, that little latch thing is so fiddly. Oh stuff this I'll just smash you in the face with it."
