Leave the battery in?

If it's bad to leave the battery in then why does Apple tell their customers to leave it in?

Cheap 
I normally leave mine in all the time, the amount of times the power cable has slipped out the back, there has been a power cut or i unplug the wrong pains plug totals to a few times. A few times where a battery has saved my rear end. (not happened in a long while though)
On my m1730 the battery has a foot on it and on the 1525 it acts as a pressure rest for the keyboard. Only the 1720 lets me take it out without any stability problems and after reading this thread, its 9 cell is sitting on my shelf.
