Leavers card - open there or take home and open

I want to know how the OP managed to get out of bed get dressed & went to work without posting a thread asking "How to" ?

Here have a smiley :p

Open the card. Read each note and thank the relevant person individually, and embrace them. Don't miss any out.

IT'S IMPORTANT YOU DON'T DEVIATE FROM THE ABOVE.

It's also VERY IMPORTANT to actually kiss all those individuals who have taken the effort to put 'X' after their signatures.
Or twice or even thrice if XX or XXX maybe?

More than two 'X' are asking for a good old snog I believe.

Good luck. X

Open the card, give it a quick once over and then read it properly later. Where I work there is usually a big crowd gathered round with a speech from line manager making the presentation and then a speech of some description from the person leaving (usually rolling out the cliches about how they will miss the people and have made genuine friends). People aren't going to stand around while you read everything on a card!

Not hang around? Our workers are all forced to sit and eat cake during these celebrations. Birthday, leaving, etc. It's not optional.

What is the etiquette here.
Open it and read it there or take it home.

Only ever got one and I worked alone (night job with occasional overtime in the day with people) so I just read it at the desk as I started my shift.
Everywhere I have worked before hasn't been a card culture.

Due to leave this job tomorrow and this is the type of place to do leavers cards (judging by other people who have left), if I do get one what should I do, read it there or say thanks and take it home to read.

It's always good to ask when unsure.

I've never left a company so I offer you my birthday celebrations as example: -

Smile politely.

Laugh in the right places (if you can) at everyone's jokes.

Try not to get too red faced with embarrassment (difficult).
- For birthdays they all sing at you here.
- not singing if you are leaving.

Accept the card. Acknowledge the cover art as very fitting.

Read the card - note the comments briefly - make your own judgement.

Thank everyone for being wonderful.

Eat cake.

Depart (or just go back to work in my case).
