LED light bulbs OK?

Which ones?
The ones I have fitted in my place are mostly Screwfix own brand (LAP from memory) and are the same size as standard bayonet bulbs, fit perfectly, better light. Compare lumens for brightness and yes, much more economical.

The only LED bulbs i have that are larger than a standard bulb are the two on my garage that are 20W each with 1901 lumens.

I have replaced all my halogen energy saving light bulbs with LED ones. No idea what make that are but they are so much better than the standard halogen energy saving bulbs. The LEDs are at full brightness instantly and more energy efficiant, I would highly recommend them. The only problem is they are more expensive than the standard halogen energy saving bulbs.

Brightness is fine but all but the more expensive ones have a nasty white balance.

My main other gripe is they are very fussy and tend to break. Purchased a dozen Philips LED budget end bulb but after 6months 4 of them failed, some within a few weeks. There is one light in the breakfast room that is.particulary bad, but the standard bulbs last year's.

The other thing is the standard ones are not dimmable.

Which Philips bulbs? I swapped over my entire house (probably 2-3 dozen bulbs) about 18 months ago now and none of them have gone so far. Dimmable, non dimmable and recessed.

As said above though LED bulbs are not all made equal. Some you can dim, some you can't (the latter are usually cheaper) and some flicker more noticeably when they are dimmed, even when they are supposed to be dimmable. Unless you're going for really bright bulbs your standard 60w equivalent (around 800 lumens) will be the same size as a normal incandescent.
