Led or lcd

both use liquid crystal pixels.

conventional 'LCD' screens use cathode backlighting

'LED' screens use LEDs for the backlight, the individual pixels are NOT LEDs

That will come with OLED displays

Reason I ask is I've tried a new led screen and the image was very dîm could just make it out.
I'm not to hot on pc's so I thought I might need an LCD screen.

If the correct screen is an led what could make the image dîm.

Thanks for your reply

Ok, I've got it, an led and LCD screen are the same, they are both LCD but lit up by an led.

So a new question, say for instance I have fitted the correct screen but it's dim, is there an invertor to start up the led backlight??

'fitted' a screen?

are you talking about a laptop as per your original post?

Cathodes dim with time and even on max brightness you may not be able to get the screen to your liking.

Then you might have to take the screen apart and fit new cathodes +/- inverter if you can buy them separately
