Left 4 Dead up for pre order on steam....

do you reckon you can associate the retail DVD with your steam account?

i think u will as i bought dark messiah on dvd and not it is in my steam games and i can download it trough steam if i loose my dvd. but then it was cousin much trouble when it was released. crashed and etc etc hopefully it will be not the problem for l4d. thats why im getting from steam straight away

I'm dubious about this. Zombie films / games are something people are very 'fickle' about.

I'm a slow, lumbering zombie person :)

Will wait for a demo or free weekend

there will be slow zombies (infected) and loads of fast ones like in 28 days later. i think they want to keep fast game play, and u on alert at all times.

i used to complain about movies with fast zombies, but i dont anymore as how would u know if the real zombie would be slow ?

*than* retail

Still doesn't account for it being dearer than getting a pretty dvd case to add to the collection of PC games for the shelf.

I'm sure when steam was first launched valve boasted that one of the benefits would be that games could be cheaper both because of that reason and due to cutting out the middle man. So much for that claim!

One day it will be the case, previously when Steam did have some games cheaper than retailers, the retailers refused to stock them as there wasn't any point. At the moment as Steam isn't anywhere near as big a distribution platform as online/high street stores they will be at the whim of these retailers, when it grows enough in popularity (not long imo), then they won't have to care too much about these retailers and can price it as they like.

I've pre ordered this on DVD.. My connection with Virgin sucks at the moment and I'm barely hitting 2meg on a 20meg line! So hopefully, I'll have to download a lot less with the DVD version! :)

Am I right in assuming the DVD version still installs on Steam?

Is that Proteus in your sig?

So are you saying you could order the retail DVD, register the CD Key to your Steam account and then proceed to d/l the game should you ever lose or destroy your original retail copy?

Saw this thread and thought would preorder too so fired up Steam and ... got the this account does not exist or the password is wrong :(
No emails from the retrieve account either despite my username and email going through correctly (or appearing so).

Can anyone check and see if Steam is ok ?

Yup, a fair few games have been like this.

Lost Planet for one.

The one and only! :)

Am surprised someone else actually recognises who it is!

Seen him a few times. I remember when i was at Magna a few years back and he was on at 5-6am and he was braying out some nails tunes, the sound guy kept turning down the volume but he kept cranking it back up.

Ive never partied that hard at that time in the morning in my whole clubbing career lol :D

Oh come on GTA4 and L4D on the same day. My game list will never be completed. I officially give up now. Don't know how I can afford both of these. Have to do it with out the missus knowing :scratches chin: :D

easy mate, just get them, if she finds out, do what i did,and say " yeah so " she never spoke to me all day and i got to play grid and portal all day :D
